Background

CEDECOM has over the years promoted tourism as heartbeat of development in the Central Region considering the enormous contribution it continues to make to the economic and social development of the region in general and the various MMDAs in particular.

Incidentally, the vital role tourism plays in the sustainable development of the region finds expression in the 2030 Agenda for ‘Sustainable Development, considering the colossal contribution tourism makes to providing ‘Decent Work & Economic Growth’ (SDG 8) as well as its role in the realization and development of ‘Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions’ (SDG16) via the promotion of tolerance and respect, cultural values. Again Tourism’s impact on the empowerment of women and young people, individuals and communities which ultimately promotes personal well-being and encourages social inclusion undeniably augments the agenda to promote ‘Gender Equality’ (SDG 5).

During this élite interactive dialogue, CEDECOM in collaboration with the Central Region Coordinating Council (CRCC), will bring together the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), renowned Chiefs and traditional leaders, private investors, opinion leaders and other relevant key stakeholders in promoting tourism for sustainable development to focus on tangible policies and initiatives aimed at further augmenting the contribution of tourism and tourism-related investments to achieving the SDGs.
